Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Harrow seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Assistant from September 2026. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring, or pastoral setting who is committed to helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive pastoral team, working closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding staff, and senior leaders to promote student wellbeing, positive behaviour, attendance, and engagement across the school. The RoleAs a Pastoral Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students' personal, social, and emotional development, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include: • Providing pastoral support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4. • Building positive relationships with students to support their wellbeing, confidence, and engagement. • Supporting students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, or attendance-related challenges. • Working alongside Heads of Year to implement pastoral support plans and interventions. • Supporting behaviour management through restorative conversations and positive behaviour strategies. • Liaising with parents/carers regarding pastoral, wellbeing, behaviour, and attendance concerns. • Working collaboratively with the safeguarding team, SEND department, and external agencies where appropriate. • Supporting students during unstructured times, including breaktimes and lunchtimes. • Maintaining accurate records of pastoral interventions and student support. • Assisting with attendance monitoring and student welfare initiatives where required. • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with safeguarding, confidentiality, and school policies. You should have: • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a secondary school, youth work, mentoring, or pastoral setting. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • The ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues. • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach. • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail. • Confidence managing challenging situations in a positive and professional manner. • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider pastoral team. • Good IT skills and confidence maintaining accurate student records. • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and behaviour management strategies is desirable. • A genuine passion for supporting students' wellbeing and helping every young person succeed.
