Pharmacy Manager
Berkshire Independent Hospital, Reading
Full Time | 37.5 hours per week
We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Pharmacy Manager to lead our pharmacy service at Berkshire Independent Hospital, one of Berkshire’s leading private hospitals.
This is an exciting time to join us. Following the opening of our brand-new purpose-built pharmacy within the last year, we’re looking for a leader who wants to shape the future of the service, drive innovation and build on the excellent care we already provide.
This is far more than a traditional pharmacy management role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, leading teams and driving improvements that make a real difference to patient care. You’ll work closely with our multidisciplinary teams, senior clinical leaders and consultants, helping to shape the future of medicines management across the hospital.
If you’re looking for autonomy, variety and the opportunity to influence how pharmacy services are delivered, we’d love to hear from you.
About us
Berkshire Independent Hospital has been providing outstanding care to patients for over 30 years and has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality healthcare. With 43 private en-suite patient rooms, modern facilities and investment in the latest technology, we provide a wide range of elective surgical and outpatient services across multiple specialties.
As part of our continued investment in patient care, we’ve recently opened a brand-new, purpose-built pharmacy, creating a modern, well-equipped environment that reflects our commitment to delivering an outstanding service for both patients and colleagues.
Our size is one of our greatest strengths. Decisions are made quickly, ideas are welcomed, and you’ll become part of a genuinely supportive leadership team where your contribution is recognised and valued.
The role
As Pharmacy Manager, you’ll provide both operational and clinical leadership for the pharmacy department, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred medicines management across the hospital.
Working closely with the wider hospital leadership team, you’ll play a key role in developing pharmacy services, leading quality improvement initiatives and supporting medicines optimisation across the organisation.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing operational and professional leadership for the pharmacy department.
• Leading, developing and supporting the pharmacy team to deliver outstanding patient care.
• Driving quality improvement and medicines optimisation initiatives.
• Working collaboratively with consultants, nurses and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Providing expert clinical advice and support across the hospital.
• Delivering dispensing services for both inpatients and outpatients.
• Participating in ward-based clinical pharmacy services and direct patient care.
• Supporting the hospital’s governance, quality and outcomes framework.
• Helping shape the future direction of pharmacy services within the hospital.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys combining clinical practice with leadership and service development.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is:
• Passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
• An approachable, supportive and inspiring leader.
• Motivated by improving services and developing people.
• A confident communicator who enjoys collaborative working.
• Comfortable working autonomously while contributing as part of a wider clinical leadership team.
• Keen to embrace innovation and help shape the future of our pharmacy service.
Essential requirements
• MPharm, BPharm or BSc (Pharm), or equivalent EEC qualification.
• Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Post-registration hospital pharmacy experience.
Desirable requirements
• Postgraduate Clinical Diploma (or equivalent).
• Previous line management or team leadership experience.
• Independent Prescriber qualification
Why join us?
At Berkshire Independent Hospital, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a friendly, supportive and forward-thinking hospital.
You’ll join a team that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement, with the autonomy to influence service development and the support to grow professionally.
If you’re looking for a leadership role where your ideas matter, your expertise is valued and you can help shape an evolving pharmacy service within a modern independent hospital, we’d love to hear from you.
