DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtain blood samples from patients in support of
laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures,
to include venepuncture, using standard equipment.
Participate in the delivery of new warfarin monitoring
service under the supervision of other clinicians.
Interact directly with patient to obtain information
for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit
cooperation.
Ensure that the patient is comfortable and as
relaxed as possible and confirm their agreement to collection of a blood
sample.
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to
confirm patient identity
Check patient identification against System 1
records
Record collection of blood sample in the patients
record using correct templates
Ensure samples are stored appropriately
Ensure samples are picked up by laboratory in a
timely fashion
Ensure that anomalies are reported to a senior
member of staff
Notify the GP/Relevant clinician of any significant patients
issues
Managing and using equipment safely and in
accordance with agreed procedures in place.

Recognise peoples needs for
alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
POLICY & SERVICE
RESPONSIBILITY
The
post holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the
practice as part of this employment, including:
An
annual individual performance review
Mandatory
training as set out and agreed by Beccles Medical Centre
Agreed
training that is essential to the role.
They
will also ensure that will adhere to practice policies and follow procedures in
place. Raising concerns or updates as necessary.
This
post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975
and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to
the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any
previous convictions.
ADMINISTRATIVE /
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Working
within System 1 and managing administration for the role as required.
No
managerial responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Relevant qualification in Venepuncture (Essential)
GCSE Grade c or above in Maths or English (or
equivalent grades will be accepted.) (Essential)
Experience in working in a Primary Care environment
using System One (Desirable)
