Job description

• Perform venepuncture for patients of all ages (within competency and practice protocols). • Correctly identify patients and confirm requested investigations before obtaining samples. • Label, process, and prepare specimens for transportation to the laboratory in accordance with practice and laboratory procedures. • Maintain accurate electronic patient records using the clinical system. • Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of phlebotomy equipment and report shortages. • Ensure clinical rooms are clean, safe, well-stocked, and prepared for use. • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies, health and safety legislation, and standard operating procedures. • Follow practice policies relating to confidentiality, information governance, safeguarding, and data protection. • Provide reassurance and support to patients, including those who may be anxious about blood tests. • Recognise and respond appropriately to patients who become unwell during or after venepuncture. • Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to support efficient patient care. • Participate in mandatory training, appraisal, and continuing professional development.
