Teaching Assistant / Support Assistant – Job Specification (30 Hours per Week) Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday Location: Preston (KS1 and wider school support as required) Key Experience and Skills Required Essential • Experience supporting children with SEND, including: • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) • Behavioural needs and challenging behaviours • Experience working with children in a primary school setting, particularly Key Stage 1 (KS1). • Experience implementing behaviour management strategies in line with school policies. • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and carers. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. • Understanding of child development and learning needs. • Experience undertaking a welfare/lunchtime supervisory role, with responsibility for pupil welfare, behaviour and safeguarding during breaks. • Ability to support pupils’ emotional regulation, wellbeing and inclusion throughout the school day. Desirable • Forest School experience and/or relevant outdoor learning qualifications. • Experience supporting pupils in outdoor learning environments. • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent. • First Aid qualification. Main Responsibilities • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND, SEMH and ASD needs. • Support pupils' learning, engagement and participation in class activities. • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing. • Assist with the delivery of individual support plans and intervention programmes. • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCO and external professionals where required. • Supervise and support pupils during lunchtime and break periods, ensuring their safety, welfare and positive social interaction. • Support Forest School and outdoor learning activities where appropriate. • Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress discussions. Safeguarding and Child Protection The successful candidate will: • Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. • Adhere to all school safeguarding, child protection, behaviour and health and safety policies. • Be responsible for reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately in accordance with school procedures. • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times. • Participate in safeguarding training and updates as required.
