Principal Designer
Location: West Midlands
Salary: £47-55,000
A well-established multidisciplinary consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Principal Designer to join its West Midlands team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering projects across a variety of sectors, ensuring health and safety compliance is effectively managed throughout the pre-construction phase in line with CDM 2015 requirements.

Key Responsibilities
• Undertake the role of Principal Designer in accordance with CDM 2015 regulations.
• Lead and coordinate health and safety activities during the pre-construction phase.
• Identify potential risks and promote effective design solutions to eliminate or reduce hazards.
• Collaborate with clients, designers, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Produce Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and facilitate design risk workshops and review meetings.
• Provide guidance to clients on their CDM responsibilities and ensure designers meet their statutory duties.
• Work closely with Principal Contractors to support robust risk management throughout project delivery.
• Compile, review, and coordinate Health and Safety Files for completion and client handover.
Requirements
• Proven experience within a CDM, Health & Safety, or construction design-related position.
• In-depth knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or an equivalent health and safety qualification.
• Experience working across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, or infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of design processes, construction methodologies, and risk reduction techniques.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing abilities.
• Previous experience acting as Principal Designer on medium to large-scale projects within a consultancy setting would be beneficial.
• Membership of IOSH, APS, or a similar professional body, along with a full UK driving licence, would be advantageous.
