Are you an experienced Fire Engineer looking to take the next step in your career with a highly reputable and growing consultancy?
We're delighted to be working with an established company, seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to join their expanding team.
This is a senior opportunity to lead the delivery of innovative fire safety solutions across a diverse range of complex projects, working with high-risk buildings and clients throughout the UK, with a focus on the South of England and Greater London.
The Role
As a Principal Fire Engineer, you will:
• Apply advanced fire engineering principles to complex buildings and fire safety scenarios
• Develop and deliver fire strategies for complex and higher-risk buildings
• Ensure fire safety compliance through detailed application of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, and relevant engineering codes
• Provide expert advice on escape routes, evacuation strategies, fire service access, and structural fire resistance
• Support clients in negotiations with Building Control, Fire Authorities, and other regulatory bodies
• Lead fire engineering delivery across multiple national projects
• Take responsibility for technical assurance and provide expert professional judgement
• Manage, mentor, and support surveyors and junior fire engineers
• Communicate complex fire engineering concepts clearly to clients, regulators, and internal teams
• Lead regulatory discussions and contribute to CPD, internal training, and professional development programmes
Principal Fire Engineer Requirements:
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Engineering Council
• Minimum 10 years' post-graduate fire engineering experience
• Accredited degree (BEng/MEng) in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
• Full professional membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE or above) or equivalent
• Proven experience delivering fire strategies for complex and higher-risk buildings
• Experience working across multiple national sites with regular UK travel
• In-depth knowledge of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, and wider engineering codes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Full UK driving licence
Working Hours
• Full-time position
• Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
• Hybrid working (office attendance varies)
• Overnight stays may be required, with expenses covered
