Waste Recycling Operative
• Pay rate: 13.69
• Location: District-wide Street Scene Depots
• Job Type: Full-time, Workplace Based and Mobile
Join our Street Scene Team in delivering a high-quality, citizen-focused service that enhances the environmental quality and community pride within the Wakefield districts. This role is ideal for individuals with a good level of fitness and a passion for maintaining clean, safe, and attractive streets and open spaces.
Day-to-day of the role:
• Collect recycling materials and waste from domestic, commercial, and trade properties across the district, ensuring proper offloading at disposal points in accordance with site regulations and safe working practices.
• Provide cover for the Waste and Recycling Collection Service, carrying out labouring duties as deemed appropriate by the Team Leader.
• Use judgment to determine appropriate items of waste to be removed to avoid third-party claims.
• Liaise with the Team Leader on public requests and report any defective or damaged receptacles.
• Ensure new exemptions and round changes are completed daily and undertake other labouring duties as determined by management.
• Engage with the public and representatives of other services as necessary, providing appropriate information on request.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Good knowledge of the waste and recycling industry.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills, with good communication and customer care skills.
• Ability to work unsupervised, use initiative, and handle aggression.
• Experience in outdoor working and manual handling is desirable.
