More detail about the role We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Paediatric Nurse to join our friendly team in the Day Surgery Unit. We look after both adults and Paediatric patients who come for a variety of procedures across a wide demographic area. The role involves caring predominately for paediatric patients on our lists as well as undertaking paediatric pre-operative assessment but there will be an expectation where you will also be caring for adult patients with the support of adult nursing colleagues. You must have experience in Paediatric Nursing already preferably working in a surgical environment. You will need to be a highly organised person with a genuine interest in optimising patients' experience during their stay in Day Surgery. You must be a team player but also be able to manage your own workload within a rapid pace area with a high turnover of patients daily; ensuring patients are admitted, seen and safely discharged within a timely manner. You must have excellent communication skills, to conduct patient assessments, liaise with other health care professionals and the admin teams when required both verbally and though electronic means. You must have excellent IT skills, as none of our patient documentation is paper based. You must be an excellent problem solver, accepting of change and able to reflect where necessary. About Us The Heavitree Day Surgery Unit is located on 2 levels. The lower floor (Lower Ground) comprises of the Reception area, 5 Single Rooms, small bay Ward, Theatre 1 and Recovery and pain suite. The upper floor (Ground) comprises Theatres 2&3 and Recovery. The Royal Devon has secured a £20m investment from NHS England to develop a Centre of Excellence for Day Surgery, which will include two additional theatres for both children and adults at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Heavitree). The Unit is open -potential open until 8PM in future with both morning and afternoon theatre lists covering a wide range of specialities under general, regional and local anaesthesia. Specialities are: General Surgery including Upper GI, Colorectal and Vascular, Gynaecology, ENT adults/paeds, Urology including laser stone fragmentation procedures, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Oral and Pain Management. The successful candiate will be as part of the team within the Day Surgery Unit at Heavitree with the flexibility to support the other Day Surgery Units within the Community (Tiverton, Exmouth) and Wonford theatres if required.
