The Opportunity - Safety Engineer / Safety ConsultantWe are seeking motivated Safety Engineers, Submarine Safety Consultants, and Defence Safety Specialists to join growing project teams supporting the UK Defence Nuclear Enterprise. The role involves delivering high-quality safety consultancy services across complex submarine and defence programmes, helping customers manage risk, maintain compliance, and develop robust safety cases. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with backgrounds in: • Defence Safety Engineering • Nuclear Safety • Submarine Programmes • Systems Safety • Risk & Hazard Analysis • Engineering Consultancy Key Responsibilities • Developing and delivering safety cases and safety documentation • Facilitating HAZID workshops and risk assessments • Supporting Defence Nuclear and Submarine programmes • Advising clients on safety regulations and compliance • Conducting hazard and risk analysis activities • Supporting delivery of multiple technical projects • Building strong customer and stakeholder relationships Experience Required • Previous experience working within an engineering consultancy environment • Experience supporting UK Submarine or Defence programmes • Knowledge of relevant defence safety regulations and standards, including: • Defence Safety Authority (DSA) • Defence Nuclear Safety Regulations • Naval Authority Certification • Experience producing safety artefacts, including: • HAZID facilitation • Risk assessments • Safety case development • Ability to manage and deliver complex technical projects Highly Desirable Experience • Nuclear SQEP • Experience with safety and risk analysis techniques such as: • SWIFT • HAZOP • FMECA • FTA • LOPA • Independent Safety Auditor or Independent Safety Advisor experience • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline • Membership of a relevant professional institution Skills & Attributes • Strong communication and technical writing skills • Professional and adaptable approach • Ability to work independently and within flexible teams • Well-organised with strong workload management skills • Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (mandatory) Salary & BenefitsThis is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and growing consultancy offering excellent career development and long-term progression.
