Job DescriptionJob TitleGeneral Practitioner (GP) Reports toGP Partners Accountable toPractice Manager and GP Partners Job PurposeThe post-holder will provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care to the practice population, managing a wide range of health needs within a primary care setting. Working as an autonomous practitioner and as part of the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will assess, diagnose and treat patients in accordance with General Medical Council (GMC) standards, Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) guidance and local and national NHS policies. The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred services while supporting the practice's commitment to continuous quality improvement and clinical excellence. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties • Provide face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for registered and temporary patients. • Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions. • Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate. • Develop and implement evidence-based management plans in partnership with patients. • Prescribe safely, effectively and cost-efficiently in line with local and national prescribing guidance. • Review pathology results, hospital correspondence and clinical documents in a timely manner. • Process repeat prescription requests and medication queries. • Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services and allied health professionals. • Promote health education, screening, prevention and self-management. • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legally compliant clinical records. • Participate in duty doctor sessions, on-call arrangements and extended access sessions as required. Clinical Governance • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement projects and significant event reviews. • Contribute to achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and other contractual requirements. • Support the development and implementation of clinical policies and protocols. • Maintain awareness of current clinical guidance and best practice. Team Working • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, physician associates, healthcare assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team. • Provide advice and support to colleagues where appropriate. • Foster effective communication to ensure continuity and quality of patient care. Professional Responsibilities • Maintain full GMC registration and a licence to practise. • Remain on the NHS England Performers List. • Participate in annual appraisal, revalidation and continuing professional development (CPD). • Maintain professional competence and comply with all statutory and mandatory training requirements. Information Governance • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients, staff and practice information. • Comply with GDPR, Data Protection legislation, Caldicott Principles and practice policies. • Ensure the safe handling and accurate recording of patient information. Health, Safety and Infection Prevention • Comply with the Practice Health and Safety Policy. • Follow infection prevention and control procedures. • Report incidents, hazards and near misses in accordance with practice procedures.
