Morrab Surgery is seeking a kind, dependable and enthusiastic Salaried GP to join our friendly and experienced team.
The postholder will provide high-quality, safe and patient-centred general medical services to our practice population. They will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, contribute to the effective operation and development of the practice and help us maintain excellent standards of clinical care.
We offer 15-minute routine appointments, protected administration and pathology time and a maximum of 15 appointments per session. Clinical and administrative responsibilities will be allocated fairly and proportionately according to the number of sessions worked.
There may also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to explore future partnership.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical care
The postholder will:
• Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations.
• Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute illness, chronic disease, complex needs and undifferentiated symptoms.
• Provide appropriate treatment, advice, health promotion and preventative care.
• Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with current guidance, local formularies and practice policies.
• Review and act upon test results, investigations, clinical correspondence and information received from other healthcare providers.
• Refer patients to secondary, community and other appropriate services, ensuring referrals are clinically appropriate and clearly documented.
• Develop and review care plans in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals where appropriate.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to medical emergencies, safeguarding concerns and significant clinical risk.
• Provide home visits when clinically necessary and make a fair contribution to the practices duty doctor arrangements.
• Provide continuity of care wherever possible and support patients to make informed decisions about their health.
• Maintain clear, accurate and contemporaneous clinical records using the practices clinical system.
Teamworking and communication
The postholder will:
• Work positively and collaboratively with GP colleagues, nursing staff, the clinical pharmacist, Primary Care Network professionals, community services and the wider practice team.
• Communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
• Participate in clinical, multidisciplinary and practice meetings as required.
• Seek advice and support when appropriate and provide professional support to colleagues.
• Contribute to a working environment based on mutual respect, open communication and shared responsibility.
• Support effective communication and coordination between the practice and other health and care organisations.
• Clinical governance and quality improvement
The postholder will:
• Deliver care in accordance with evidence-based practice, GMC guidance, NHS requirements and relevant local and national policies.
• Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, significant-event reviews and other clinical governance activities.
• Contribute to the development, review and implementation of practice policies, clinical protocols and service improvements.
• Support the practice in meeting relevant contractual, regulatory and quality requirements.
• Report incidents, concerns and near misses appropriately and contribute constructively to learning and improvement.
• Use practice resources responsibly and support safe, effective and sustainable working.
Professional responsibilities
The postholder will:
• Maintain full registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
• Remain included on the GMC GP Register and the NHS England Medical Performers List.
• Maintain appropriate medical indemnity arrangements.
• Maintain continuing professional development and participate in annual appraisal and revalidation.
• Work within their professional competence and recognise the limits of their knowledge and experience.
• Keep up to date with developments in general practice, clinical guidance and relevant legislation.
• Participate in appropriate educational and professional development activities.
• Maintain professional conduct and uphold the standards described in Good Medical Practice.
