We are recruiting experienced School Kitchen Assistants with a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service to work across a variety of schools and educational settings in Grays and Thurrock. Key Responsibilities • Assist with the preparation and serving of fresh, nutritious meals. • Support the kitchen team in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment. • Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures at all times. • Wash kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas. • Assist with stock rotation, storage, and waste reduction. • Support the catering team during busy meal service periods. • Help cater for dietary requirements, allergies, and special diets. • Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain professional standards within education settings. Essential Requirements • Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, or General Assistant in schools, colleges, universities, or other DBS-regulated environments. • Valid Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service. • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum). • Food Allergen Awareness Certificate. • Good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety regulations. • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team. • Good communication skills and a positive attitude. Desirable Skills • Experience in education or contract catering. • Knowledge of School Food Standards. • Experience preparing and serving meals for large numbers of people. • Level 3 Food Hygiene or Food Safety qualification.
