Location: Near Ipswich (approximately 15 minutes from Ipswich Town Centre) Contract: Temporary to Permanent Salary: Up to £28,597 per annum Hours: Full-Time Make a Difference Every Day We are recruiting for a passionate and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist education setting supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or qualified HLTA seeking a rewarding role where they can have a genuine impact on the lives of young people who require additional support to succeed both academically and personally. The Role Working closely with teachers and the wider school team, you will support the delivery of engaging learning experiences, helping pupils overcome barriers to education and achieve positive outcomes. The role is varied and rewarding, requiring someone who is adaptable, patient, and able to build strong relationships with pupils who may present with complex needs and challenging behaviours. Key Responsibilities • Support teaching and learning within the classroom and through small-group interventions. • Deliver planned learning activities and lessons when required. • Support pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, and other SEND needs. • Implement and monitor individual support plans and EHCP targets. • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and independence. • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff. • Prepare learning resources and maintain an engaging classroom environment. • Support educational visits, enrichment activities, and school trips. • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals. • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. About the Pupils The children and young people supported within this setting come from a variety of backgrounds and may have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or prolonged challenges within mainstream education. Many pupils have: • SEMH needs • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) • ADHD • Communication and interaction difficulties • Additional learning needs The successful candidate will understand the importance of consistency, empathy, patience, and maintaining a positive, non-judgemental approach. What We're Looking For • HLTA qualification or significant experience in a similar educational support role. • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH and/or SEND. • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills. • A calm, resilient, and proactive approach. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their potential.
