Job Advert: SEN Teaching Assistant Mainstream Primary School – Skelmersdale Start Date: Sep 2026 Contract: Fixed Term (Full Academic Year) Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Term Time Only) Pay: £14.25 – £16 per hour (paid weekly) Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them thrive in a nurturing, inclusive environment? The Head Teacher of a welcoming mainstream primary school in Skelmersdale is seeking one committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from Sep 2026. This is a long-term, term-time-only role offering the opportunity to provide tailored, 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs. About the Role: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and the school’s SEND team to provide personalised support for a child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Your role will be key in helping the pupil access learning, develop independence, and feel fully included in school life. Key Responsibilities: • Provide 1:1 support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs • Support the delivery of lessons and targeted interventions aligned with EHCP outcomes • Promote positive behaviour, confidence, and emotional wellbeing • Monitor and report on pupil progress and engagement • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment Essential Requirements: • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) – training can be provided • Experience supporting children with SEN in a UK classroom setting is desirable • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to learning and behaviour support • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals • Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children We Offer: • Weekly pay at a competitive hourly rate • A supportive and welcoming school environment • Comprehensive induction and ongoing training opportunities • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to a child’s education and wellbeing All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
