Senior Accountant
Location: Elland, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Salary Range: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)
Job OverviewWe are looking for a motivated Accountant to join our growing finance team in Elland. The role is ideal for an AAT-qualified professional with at least two years of post-qualification experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will work on a variety of client accounts, support senior staff, and develop your own client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and process quarterly and annual accounts for small- to medium-size clients.
• Maintain ledgers, reconcile bank statements, and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
• Assist with VAT returns, PAYE submissions and other statutory filings.
• Support senior accountants with audit preparation and client meetings.
• Provide day-to-day advice to clients on bookkeeping, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and help implement efficient accounting solutions.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and data protection regulations.
Essential Qualifications
• AAT Level 4 qualification (or equivalent).
• Professional membership with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) or willingness to obtain it.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) and strong Excel skills.
• Solid understanding of UK tax legislation, VAT, and payroll basics.
• Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Desired Experience
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar accounting role after completing AAT qualification.
• Experience handling a portfolio of small- to medium-size clients.
• Exposure to client liaison and the ability to build professional relationships.
• Experience with year-end accounts and statutory reporting is advantageous.
• Motivation to develop further skills and progress toward senior accounting responsibilities.
