Senior Accounts Payable Officer (Maternity Cover) Location: Wembley (Office Based – 5 Days Per Week) Pay Rate: £20.08 per hour PAYE | £26.44 per hour Umbrella Contract: Temporary – Maternity Cover Hours: 7.2 Hours Per Day, Monday to Friday Start Date: Immediate Start Available We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Accounts Payable Officer to join a busy Local Government finance team based in Wembley. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong Accounts Payable experience to support the delivery of high-quality financial services during a maternity cover assignment. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of Accounts Payable and Procure-to-Pay processes within a Local Government environment, together with the ability to manage complex, high-value and high-volume financial transactions whilst ensuring compliance with financial controls, governance requirements, and financial regulations. Key Responsibilities • Oversee day-to-day Accounts Payable operations. • Process supplier invoices accurately and within agreed timescales. • Support and administer Procure-to-Pay processes. • Resolve invoice, payment, and supplier account queries efficiently. • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, procedures, and internal control frameworks. • Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies. • Support month-end and year-end financial processes. • Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure smooth payment operations. • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements. • Provide support to the wider finance team as required. Essential Requirements • Significant Accounts Payable experience. • Previous experience working within a Local Government Finance environment. • Detailed knowledge of Accounts Payable and Procure-to-Pay processes. • Strong understanding of financial controls, governance, and compliance. • Experience managing complex, high-value and high-volume transactions. • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities. • Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and financial systems. Desirable Experience • Oracle Cloud Financials experience. • Experience within a Shared Service Centre or large public sector finance function. What's on Offer?
