Job description

The Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) is now located in a new purpose built unit, based within the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre. The Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) at Rotherham Hospital comprises: 27 Bedded Medical Admissions Unit 28 Bedded Short Stay Unit Frailty assessment and liaison team The post holder will have responsibility for SDEC and AMU patients and their relevant area of specialist interest. Within the Division of we work to our core Vision To deliver high quality, person centred care by the right people in the right place and time, delivered by an empowered, compassionate and skilled workforce within a strong Quality and Financial Governance and Assurance framework. The aim is to ensure that we reduce the burden on our UECC, reduce overall length of stay and ensure that we meet our core vision. SDEC is a critical admission avoidance strategy for the Trust and this role will be important in ensuring that we reach decisions quickly and effectively to offer the best possible care to our patients. SDEC is currently supported by a fully established Acute Medical consultant team, working between them to provide support and consultant level decision making into the unit. This offer now extends until 9pm Monday to Friday. There will be opportunity to assist in the development of the unit and to further develop ambulatory care pathways alongside specialty in-reach and rapid assessment follow up clinics. The Post We welcome applications for the post of Specialty Doctor within the Same Day Emergency Care and Acute Medicine service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity and are encouraged to identify an area of specialty interest in one of the following areas: Cardiology Respiratory Diabetes & Endocrinology Gastroenterology Health Care for the Elderly (including Stroke). Requests for sub specialty interests will be considered on an individual basis. As individuals are appointed to more of these roles, the areas of specialty interest will be discussed with the successful candidates accordingly. We can offer training and development opportunities and will support Specialty Doctors to enable them to provide a first class service. The post holder will support the embedding of new innovated ways and make the services at Rotherham more efficient for the patients and pathways between both Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine. The aim of these posts is to have integral links between departments to enable close, collaborative working. General 1. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in SDEC and AMU, with responsibility for type 5 patients and inpatients. 2. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave. 3. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate. 4. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met. 5. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary. Junior Medical Staff 6. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. 7. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff. Management & Service Development 8. In conjunction with the Divisional Senior Team, to take an active role in the management of the Division. 9. In conjunction with the Divisional Director, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles that are fit for the future. 10. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department. 11. To observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trusts Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters. Clinical Governance 12.
