Senior COBOL Developer Oxfordshire / Hybrid (1-day per week in office) Easily commutable on train from Birmingham, Coventry & London £55k - £65k + Corporate benefits A long-established software business is hiring a Senior COBOL Developer to maintain and support its core platform during a long-term migration project. You will work on a substantial estate of business-critical COBOL applications running the business day to day, alongside an active programme of enhancements, regulatory updates and performance work. You will work in a small, Agile development team but take the lead on the COBOL work. The role is hands-on, mixing new development, BAU enhancement, production support and code archaeology across the legacy estate. What you will be doing: • Writing new COBOL programs and enhancing existing ones across the platform • Owning batch processing and online transactions, working across copybooks, sort utilities and file handlers • Code archaeology and data analysis across legacy modules • Supporting release management and code promotion across environments • Working with the wider team to prepare modules for the migration workstream • Mentoring junior team members and helping shape technical standards Your experience will ideally include: • Multiple years of hands-on COBOL development on a real production estate • Acu COBOL / Acucorp / extend experience is a huge plus. Comparable experience with Micro Focus COBOL (Net Express, Visual COBOL, Enterprise Developer), RM COBOL or another distributed COBOL implementation is also welcome • Comfortable with COBOL copybooks, sort utilities and indexed file systems such as Vision or ISAM • Working knowledge of at least one relational database (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL or DB2) • Server-side familiarity with Linux and/or UNIX environments, including shell scripting • Exposure to source control and code promotion tooling Keywords: Senior COBOL Developer, Acu COBOL Developer, Acucorp Developer, extend COBOL Developer, Micro Focus COBOL Developer, RM COBOL Developer, Rocket COBOL Developer, Distributed COBOL Developer, COBOL Programmer, COBOL Software Engineer
