Job description

Are you a protein scientist with a passion for translating cutting-edge biology into real-world products? We're looking for a Senior Development Scientist to join our client's team and help shape the next generation of protein science. You'll lead the design and optimisation of protein-based assays and workflows - from early feasibility through to robust, scalable solutions ready for commercial deployment. Drawing on your expertise in protein characterisation, you'll generate high-quality, well-controlled data that drives strategic decisions and moves prototypes into reliable, reproducible platform-integrated tools. What you'll do: • Design and execute experimental programmes to develop and optimise biological and enzymatic assays, with a focus on robustness, scalability, and transferability • Apply protein characterisation techniques - such as HPLC/FPLC, mass spectrometry, or related analytical methods - to inform and accelerate product development • Translate feasibility findings into viable product and customer workflows, defining clear milestones and success criteria • Lead and mentor a team of scientists, providing day-to-day technical guidance and line management • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth integration of workflows into the wider platform • Maintain high standards of documentation in line with quality management systems What we're looking for: • A BSc, MSc, PhD, or equivalent in proteomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related discipline • A strong track record in developing, optimising, and troubleshooting biological or enzymatic assays in a commercial or industrial setting • Hands-on experience with protein characterisation techniques and bioanalytical methods • Proven ability to drive improvements in assay performance, reproducibility, and scalability • Experience managing or mentoring scientists, with strong communication skills across all levels of an organisation If you're ready to bring your protein science expertise to a fast-moving, commercially focused environment where your work directly shapes products, we'd love to hear from you. In addition to incredibly challenging and rewarding work in a highly collaborative environment, our client is offering a market leading salary plus excellent benefits and extremely exciting opportunities for personal progression and development.
