Senior Finance OfficerSwansea | Hybrid Working (40% Office Based) | 35 Hours per Week Salary: £38,700 • Yolk Recruitment is working with a well-established housing association in Swansea to recruit an experienced Senior Finance Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative finance team in a role that combines management accounting, team leadership and process improvement. You'll play a key role in supporting the Finance Manager, supervising a team of Finance Assistants and ensuring the smooth running of month-end reporting and financial controls. This position would suit someone looking to step into a role with genuine responsibility, where they can influence processes, support colleagues and contribute to the continued development of the finance function. What you'll be doingReporting to the Finance Manager, you'll act as the link between management and the transactional finance team, taking ownership of key financial reporting activities while providing day-to-day leadership to three Finance Assistants. Your responsibilities will include: • Supervising, mentoring and supporting a team of three Finance Assistants. • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts. • Producing accurate monthly financial reports for a range of departments. • Completing month-end activities, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations. • Overseeing the processing of financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance. • Reviewing purchase ledger, sales ledger and cashbook activities while providing guidance and resolving queries. • Preparing VAT returns and other statutory submissions. • Reconciling the finance system with the housing management system. • Producing ad hoc analysis and reporting using Microsoft Excel. • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiencies across the finance function. • Building strong relationships with colleagues across the organisation and providing financial support where required. • Providing holiday cover for payroll when necessary. What we're looking forWe're looking for an experienced finance professional who enjoys both the technical and people aspects of finance. You'll be confident managing workloads, supporting colleagues and taking ownership of month-end reporting. The successful candidate will have: • AAT Level 4 qualification or be part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent). • Previous experience producing management accounts. • Strong understanding of month-end processes, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations. • Experience supervising, mentoring or managing finance staff. • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and financial reporting. • Experience preparing VAT returns. • Excellent communication and organisational skills. • The ability to prioritise workloads and use initiative. • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. Previous experience within housing, social housing, public sector or a regulated environment would be advantageous but is by no means essential. Candidates from commercial organisations or accountancy practice with the relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
