Senior Finance Officer
Contract to Permanent
3 Days on-site
Hourly Rate: £18 - £20
Permanent Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join a growing Housing Association and support the smooth running of the finance function. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will oversee day-to-day transactional finance activities including sales ledger, purchase ledger, banking and rent accounting, whilst supervising Finance Assistants and ensuring key financial deadlines are met. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional looking to combine operational processing with team leadership in a values-driven organisation.
Senior Finance Officer General Responsibilities:
• Supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Rent Ledger activities across the organisation
• Lead on bank reconciliations, monthly cashbooks and nominal ledger maintenance
• Oversee sales ledger and purchase ledger processing, including payment runs and query resolution
• Supervise rent collection activities and ensure accurate and timely reconciliations
• Support the maintenance of the fixed asset register and wider finance operations
• Provide day-to-day leadership, target setting and support to Finance Assistants
• Assist with Board papers, financial controls and compliance with financial regulations
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and support the continued development of the finance function
Senior Finance Officer Ideal Candidate:
• Qualified by experience or part-qualified accountant
• Previous experience working within a busy finance or accounting environment
• Strong bank reconciliation, cashbook and ledger management experience
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a finance function
• Experience using accounting systems and finance software
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure
• Social Housing experience would be advantageous.
