Job Title: Senior Process Engineer Location: Birmingham Full-Time / Hybrid Company overview: We are a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering innovative solutions across the Energy, Utilities, Water, and Industrial sectors. With a strong track record in the design and delivery of critical infrastructure projects, we support clients throughout the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and asset optimisation. Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer with strong expertise in hydraulic calculations and process design to support the delivery of complex engineering projects. The successful candidate will have a proven background in the Oil & Gas sector and experience delivering utility and/or water industry projects. This role will be responsible for developing hydraulic models, performing process calculations, preparing engineering deliverables, and providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle from concept through detailed design and commissioning support. Key Responsibilities • Lead the development and verification of hydraulic calculations for pipelines, pumping systems, process facilities, and utility networks. • Perform steady-state and dynamic hydraulic analyses for fluid transport systems. • Develop and review process engineering deliverables including: • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) • Hydraulic calculation reports • Equipment datasheets • Utility consumption calculations • Process design basis documents • Size and specify process equipment including pumps, valves, pressure relief devices, tanks, and associated systems. • Conduct line sizing, pressure drop calculations, surge analysis, and pump system evaluations. • Support design reviews including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and constructability reviews. • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams including Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Pipeline Engineering. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate process engineers. • Ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements. • Support project execution from feasibility studies through FEED, detailed design, construction, and commissioning. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related discipline. • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership preferred. • Minimum 10+ years of process engineering experience. • Significant experience within the Oil & Gas sector, including upstream, midstream, downstream, LNG, terminals, or energy infrastructure projects. • Demonstrable expertise in hydraulic design and fluid flow calculations. Essential Technical Experience • Advanced hydraulic calculation and fluid flow analysis. • Pipeline and network modelling. • Pump system design and selection. • Utility systems design including: • Water distribution systems • Firewater systems • Cooling water systems • Potable and industrial water systems • Wastewater and drainage systems • Process simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or equivalent. • Control valve sizing and pressure relief system familiarity. • Knowledge of API, ASME, ISO, BS EN, and relevant industry standards. • Experience producing and reviewing process engineering documentation.
