Senior Software Developer(Kotlin/Java) • Contract Type: Initial 3-Month Contract • Start Date: ASAP • Day Rate: Up to £500 per day (Inside IR35) • Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance preferred, or eligibility to obtain SC Clearance • Location: Primarily remote with occasional onsite attendance (maximum once per month). Site locations may vary and could include London, Leeds, or Sheffield. Previous Central Government experience is essential. Role Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Developer with strong back-end engineering expertise in Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot. The successful candidate will join a collaborative Agile team, contributing to the development of high-quality software solutions within a government-focused environment. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot. • Collaborate closely with developers, architects, product teams, and stakeholders. • Champion engineering best practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD). • Contribute to technical discussions, solution design, and continuous improvement initiatives. • Support the delivery of high-quality software within Agile delivery teams. • Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing activities. Essential Skills & Experience • Extensive experience as a Back-End Software Engineer or Developer. • Strong commercial experience with: • Kotlin • Java • Spring Boot • Proven expertise in Test-Driven Development (TDD), with the ability to demonstrate this during a pairing exercise at interview stage. • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and modern development methodologies. • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication and teamwork skills. • Experience working within government or public sector environments. Desirable Experience • Experience working on secure, large-scale digital services. • Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and DevOps principles. • Previous experience working within teams requiring Security Clearance. Deliverables • Support delivery of project objectives during the initial 3-month Statement of Work. • Produce high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code. • Contribute positively to team performance and technical excellence.
