Senior Service Charge Accountant / Bookkeeper
Location: East Hertfordshire
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 DOE

Overview An established Property Management company in East Hertfordshire is seeking an experienced Senior Service Charge Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their accounts team. This newly appointed role will be developed around the successful candidate, blending client-facing presentations, board-level reporting, and hands-on support for the office-based accounts department.
The successful candidate will work across multiple internal teams, support the on-boarding of new business, and collaborate directly with the Head of Accounts on specialist projects, including structuring the firm’s accounting approach to Heat Networks.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare year-end service charge accounts and liaise with external accountants
• Manage income and expenditure ledgers, accruals and prepayments
• Produce service charge budgets, forecasts and detailed variance reports
• Complete bank reconciliations and monitor cashflow
• Attend quarterly Directors’ meetings for larger buildings, presenting financial performance and explaining variances
• Support Property Managers in understanding each building’s accounts and financial idiosyncrasies
• Work with the on-boarding team to ensure accurate financial setup for new business
• Handle complex client and leaseholder account queries professionally
• Collaborate with the Head of Accounts on “special projects”, including Heat Network accounting structures
• Ensure all financial records comply with RICS and ARMA guidelines
Experience and Skills Required
• Strong background in Service Charge Accounting or Property Accounts
• Comprehensive knowledge of service charge accounts across multiple departmental areas
• In-depth working knowledge of Qube (essential)
• Confident presenting financial information to Directors and senior stakeholders
• High level of accuracy, analytical ability and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
• Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload
• Experience using Sage (advantageous but not essential)
