Job description

Salary: very competitive Benefits: annually reviewed salary, full professional support, approved contributory pension, healthcare, life cover, share option plan Hours: Full time, Permanent Location: Carlow, Ireland / Remote The business, a leading learning and Assessment software as a service provider, is looking to enhance its development team in support of its strong growth agenda. We build and operate XAMS, an eAssessment platform used by awarding bodies across the UK and Ireland. We're in an active growth phase — expanding our existing service and moving into new markets. Our small and well established development team is experienced and pragmatic; we care about providing working software, not rebuilding from scratch every time a new framework wins a popularity contest. This is a role for a mid-level full-stack developer to join the core team - someone who can supplement and enhance what we do, and plan to do, and help grow the business. What you'll be working on • XAMS is a mature, actively developed platform covering exam authoring, scheduling, delivery, and results processing. • Working across the full stack — C# / .NET on the backend, React on the frontend — on features that real organisations depend on. • Contribute to our ongoing UI modernisation project, currently moving to a new React-based interface. The Role – pre-requisites • 2–5 years of commercial software development experience • Solid C# and .NET skills — you don't need to know every framework, but you should understand the language properly • Comfortable with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, with a genuine interest in building good UI • Experience working directly on user-facing interfaces — not just wiring up components, but thinking about how they actually work for users • Able to read and write sensible SQL (SQL Server) • Someone who solves problems with the simplest thing that works, not the most interesting thing that could work • Good communication — the team is small and we rely on people saying what they think The Role – advantages • Experience with Azure (Service Bus, Blob Storage) • Familiarity with SignalR or real-time web patterns • Any background in education technology or assessment • We use AI coding tools as a normal part of the development workflow — familiarity with tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code is a plus, though not essential Other Information We reward performance - our package includes: • A role where your work has visible, direct impact • A senior team you can actually learn from — between us we have decades of production experience • Real scope to grow as the business expands into new markets • No bureaucracy, no performance theatre, and no six-stage interview process • Fully remote or hybrid working — we have team members across Ireland and the UK We are a business where high performers progress. If you consistently deliver, you’ll find genuine opportunity to develop your career within a growing, stable and ambitious group business. IMPORTANT NOTE Our aim is to respond to all successful applications within 14 days. If you haven't been contacted within this time your application has been unsuccessful and your details will not be held further but we positively encourage you to apply for any other positions that you may see in the future. We apologise that we cannot contact everybody in person but thank you in advance for your interest. Our client is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all age groups.
