Job Title – Solar Technical Designer Their Purpose – A rapidly growing renewable energy organisation specialising in the design and delivery of domestic Solar PV and Battery Storage systems. Their mission is to support the UK’s transition to clean energy by providing high-quality, compliant, and customer-focused solar installations nationwide. Location & Flexibility – Office-based role in Leeds. About the Job As a Solar Technical Designer, you will play a key role within the technical team, carrying out desktop surveys and ensuring engineers attend site with the correct materials, information, and installation requirements. You will review customer orders, assess technical suitability, and ensure all Solar PV and Battery Storage designs meet current MCS, NAPIT, and manufacturer standards. You will support engineers with technical queries, identify potential installation issues, maintain accurate job records, and contribute to delivering a high-quality customer experience. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical understanding, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with both customers and field engineers. Key Responsibilities • Daily desktop surveying of Solar PV and Battery Storage installations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations • Delivering excellent customer service and providing accurate, tailored technical advice • Reviewing customer-selected products for suitability and raising any concerns prior to material dispatch • Managing issues highlighted by engineers or customers before or during installation • Advising engineers on best practice, technical requirements, and customer service standards • Identifying abnormal or high-risk issues that may impact installation quality or customer satisfaction • Maintaining clear, accurate, and compliant job records • Communicating effectively with customers, engineers, and internal teams • Supporting wider technical and operational functions as required About You • Strong technical understanding of Solar PV systems, electrical components, and installation requirements • Proven experience in Solar PV installation, inspection, design, or technical auditing • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and installation documentation • Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Confident working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously • Organised, proactive, and able to identify improvements in processes or customer experience Desirable Knowledge & Experience • Understanding of electricity generation fundamentals • Knowledge of PV system components, inverters, battery storage, and system design • Familiarity with performance indicators such as PR and availability • Awareness of SCADA systems and data flows (beneficial but not essential) • Previous experience in renewable energy, solar, or technical design roles • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential) Benefits • 30 days annual leave + bank holidays • Private medical cover* • 4x salary Death in Service cover* • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay after qualifying period • Salary sacrifice pension scheme (matched up to 6%) • Ongoing training & development opportunities • Regular social events and a supportive team culture
