Job description

The purpose of the Paediatric Emergency Nursing Team is to; Deliver a high-quality standard of care to Babies, Children and Young People attending the ECC Department. To be a role model in achieving excellence in the care of critically ill paediatric patients regardless of location. They provide education, training and development to staff throughout the wider ED. Play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs in the ED, commence treatment plans, be instrumental in navigating medical review of the patient, liaising with the Paediatric areas, and ensuring timely transfer of the patient to an inpatient bed. Proactively prevent unnecessary admissions, empowering the Emergency Care teams to safely manage the child, and support safe discharges where appropriate. Ensure the implementation of the Paediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) and Sepsis Bundle are applied consistently. Implement and escalate the correct paediatric pathways e.g trauma and burns, in line with evidence-based practice. Support and educate staff on paediatric drug doses, calculations and fluid management.
