Job description

Location: Essex Full-Time | Permanent Looking for a personal tax role where you can genuinely enjoy what you do? We're working with a highly regarded independent accountancy practice that prides itself on looking after both its clients and its people. Due to continued growth, the firm is looking to recruit an experienced Small Business Portfolio Manager to join its friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the compliance side of personal tax and is looking for a long-term career within a well-established practice. Unlike many tax roles, this position is focused on managing your own portfolio of clients rather than constant advisory projects or unrealistic billing targets. You'll have the autonomy to build strong client relationships whilst being supported by an experienced team around you. The Role You'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of individuals, landlords and sole traders, ensuring their tax affairs are dealt with accurately, professionally and on time. Your responsibilities will include: • Managing your own portfolio of personal tax clients. • Preparing and reviewing Self Assessment tax returns. • Preparing sole trader accounts. • Liaising directly with clients and HMRC. • Reviewing work prepared by junior team members. • Supporting clients with day-to-day personal tax matters. • Identifying straightforward tax planning opportunities where appropriate. • Ensuring compliance deadlines are consistently achieved. • Please note: This role does not involve Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, as this is managed separately within the practice. About You You'll ideally have: • Previous experience preparing UK Self Assessment tax returns within an accountancy practice. • Experience preparing sole trader accounts. • The ability to manage your own client portfolio. • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. • Strong communication and client relationship skills. • Experience using software such as Iris, Sage, Xero or similar. What's on Offer? • Salary of £34,000 – £42,000 • Employer pension contributions • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays • Your birthday off every year • Private healthcare following probation • Free on-site parking • Friendly and supportive team environment • Long-term career stability • Hybrid working available once established within the role If you're looking to join a genuinely friendly practice where your work is valued and client relationships come first, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now for a confidential discussion.
