Your Company: A well-established and growing environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced Technical Director to join its leadership team. The organisation provides specialist ecological and environmental consultancy services across a diverse range of development, infrastructure, energy, and conservation projects throughout the UK. Working with both private and public sector clients, the consultancy is recognised for delivering high-quality, practical ecological solutions that support sustainable development while protecting and enhancing biodiversity. With continued growth, a strong project pipeline, and ambitious strategic objectives, the business is looking for a passionate and experienced ecology professional to help drive technical excellence, lead regional operations, and support the development of its people and services. Your Role and Responsibilities: While in this position your duties may include, but are not limited to: • Providing strategic and operational leadership across the ecology team, ensuring the successful delivery of regional and national business objectives • Managing and developing ecological teams through mentoring, coaching, recruitment, performance management, appraisals, and objective setting • Supporting staff development and creating opportunities for technical and professional growth across all levels of the team • Overseeing financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and ensuring commercial objectives are achieved • Leading project resourcing activities, attending regular planning meetings, and providing regional performance updates • Acting as a senior technical lead on complex, high-value ecological projects, providing guidance and support to Project Managers and Project Directors • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards • Conducting regular portfolio review meetings with Project Managers and Project Directors to monitor project performance and identify opportunities for improvement • Coordinating regional strategy and aligning local priorities with wider business objectives and growth plans • Maintaining and developing strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and key point of contact • Representing the business at industry events, professional networks, conferences, and stakeholder meetings • Promoting technical excellence, quality assurance, and best practice across all ecological services • Contributing to business development activities, identifying new opportunities and supporting continued growth • Ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation, industry guidance, and professional standards What You Will Need to Apply: • Minimum 4+ years' experience operating at a senior leadership level within ecological consultancy • Substantial ecological consultancy experience across a range of sectors, including development, infrastructure, and environmental projects • Demonstrable experience in client-facing roles, building and maintaining successful professional relationships • Proven project management experience, including the successful delivery of complex and high-value projects • Significant team leadership and people management experience, including staff development, mentoring, recruitment, and performance management • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasting, resource allocation, and financial performance • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills • Passion for ecology, technical excellence, and supporting the development of ecological professionals • Relevant degree-level qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required What You Will Get in Return: This is a full-time permanent opportunity to join a highly respected and growing environmental consultancy at a senior leadership level.
