Transport Manager
Wolverhampton
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Manager to join a well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Wolverhampton. This is a hands-on management role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring legal compliance, maintaining high operational standards and leading a small transport team.
This position would suit a proactive transport professional with strong leadership skills, excellent knowledge of transport legislation and a commitment to delivering an efficient and compliant operation.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage the daily operation of the transport department.
• Lead, motivate and support the transport team to ensure excellent performance.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation and industry regulations.
• Monitor and manage Drivers' Working Time Regulations and ensure records remain fully compliant.
• Ensure vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules and defect reporting are completed and kept up to date.
• Maintain accurate transport documentation and compliance records.
• Work closely with warehouse and production teams to ensure deliveries are planned and completed efficiently.
• Monitor fleet utilisation and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the transport function.
• Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the department.
To be successful in this role you will have:
• Previous experience managing a transport team within a manufacturing, logistics or distribution environment.
• Strong knowledge of Drivers' Working Time Regulations and transport compliance.
• Experience ensuring vehicle inspections, maintenance records and compliance documentation are maintained.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
• Strong leadership and people management experience.
• Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships across departments.
• A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Competent IT skills and experience using transport or fleet management systems
Desirable
• Forklift Truck (FLT) training or certification would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
