Transport Planner - Co-ordinator (Container Haulage)
London Gateway, Essex
£30,000 - £40,000 DOE
Full-Time | Permanent
Working Hours
Monday to Friday
Choose from one of the following fixed 10-hour shifts:
• 4:00am – 2:00pm
• OR
• 8:00am – 6:00pm
Participation in a shared weekend and Bank Holiday on-call rota is required.

The Role
As a Transport Planner - Co-ordinator, you'll be at the centre of daily transport operations, ensuring container movements are planned efficiently and delivered seamlessly. You'll work closely with drivers, customers, ports, and internal stakeholders to keep operations running smoothly while maintaining excellent service levels and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Planning and coordinating daily container transport activities across the UK
• Optimising vehicle utilisation and managing driver schedules
• Communicating effectively with drivers, customers, port authorities, and internal teams
• Monitoring vehicle movements and proactively resolving operational issues
• Managing container bookings through the London Gateway Vehicle Booking System (VBS)
• Maintaining accurate transport records using various operating systems
• Ensuring all deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently, and on time
• Supporting compliance with transport legislation, company procedures, and industry regulations
• Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and customer service
What We're Looking For
• Previous experience within the UK container haulage industry
• Strong planning, organisation, and workload management skills
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• A proactive approach with the ability to make decisions under pressure
• Strong IT skills, including Outlook and Excel
• Ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-moving transport environment
Experience Advantage
• Experience using London Gateway VBS
• Knowledge of Fargo TOPS or a similar Transport Management System (TMS)
• Transport Manager CPC qualification
• Knowledge of drivers' hours, tachograph regulations, and transport compliance
• Experience within a high-volume transport planning operation
