Vehicle Artist

Founded in 2012 by Chris Roberts, Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is one of the largest independent game studios in the world – and home to some of the most ambitious vehicle art in the industry. From single seater fighters to capital size ships, our Vehicle Artists help bring the Star Citizen universe to life, working at a level of detail and craftmanship few studios attempt. We’re a team that thrives on pushing boundaries, and we’re looking for artists who want to do the same. About the Role We’re looking for a Vehicle Artist with hard surface modelling experience to join our team. You’ll work closely with designers, organised into strike teams, to design and build ships of all shapes and sizes – and help craft the flyable, multiplayer-ready levels players will explore. This role calls for a strong grasp of industrial design and the technical know-how to take a concept from initial model through to a fully functioning ship in the Star Citizen universe – including the software we use and the specific functional areas (cockpits, landing gear, cargo systems, and more) that need to come together. You’ll be working in a collaborative, team-orientated environment, communicating closely with designers and artists across other disciplines throughout development. What does a Vehicle Artist at CIG do? • Work from concept models and images to turn them into fully functional, flyable works of art. • Collaborate with designers, technical artists, and partner studios to understand and implement correct file naming and directory structure requirements within the engine’s limitations. • As part of a team, maintain the high standards of modelling, texturing, PBR material creation, and manufacturer design cues to provide consistent and high-quality models. • Work with technical artists and animators to deliver ‘animation ready’ solutions, landing gear, cockpits, cargo doors, ejection seats etc. What do we expect from our Vehicle Artists? • Hard surface modelling experience. • Good working knowledge of 3DS Max and Photoshop. • An eye for detail while maintaining efficient model making. • A keen eye for industrial design. • Avid gamer with a love of sci-fi.
