Job description

Vehicle Mechanic Location: Rochford Working Hours & Pay • Monday to Friday • 7:00am – 4:00pm • Two 30-minute breaks • Basic pay rate: £16.30 - £21.00 per hour • Overtime available at Time and a Half Overview Our client is seeking an experienced and reliable Vehicle Mechanic to join their engineering and maintenance team within a busy industrial environment. This role is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a range of operational equipment, including terminal tractors, trailers, and associated machinery, ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and fully operational at all times. The successful candidate will have strong mechanical experience, practical problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to maintenance and workplace safety. Key Duties & Responsibilities • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on terminal tractors, trailers, and mechanical equipment • Diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs efficiently to minimise downtime • Undertake welding, fabrication, and fitting work when required • Replace and repair vehicle components including tyres, wheels, braking systems, and mechanical parts • Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance checks on equipment and machinery • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and service documentation • Assist with the control and management of spare parts, consumables, and workshop inventory • Ensure workshop areas, tools, and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and organised condition • Support wider maintenance and engineering activities when required • Follow all company health & safety procedures and industry regulations at all times Skills & Experience Required • Previous experience within a mechanical fitting, plant maintenance, or heavy vehicle maintenance role • Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair capabilities • Experience working on trailers, tractors, heavy vehicles, or industrial equipment • Welding and fabrication experience advantageous • Familiarity with stock control or parts inventory systems • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment • Good communication and organisational skills Candidate Requirements • Physically capable of carrying out manual engineering and maintenance duties • Strong awareness of workplace safety and safe systems of work • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours when operationally required • High attention to detail with a proactive approach to maintenance tasks • Full UK driving licence preferred Desirable Qualifications & Experience • Mechanical engineering or relevant trade qualification • Previous experience working within logistics, transport, manufacturing, or heavy industrial sectors • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems beneficial Health & Safety • Adhere to all company and site-specific health & safety policies • Wear appropriate PPE at all times while carrying out duties • Report any hazards, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly • Ensure all work is completed in line with safe working practices and compliance standards How to Apply To apply for this exclusive opportunity, please submit an up-to-date CV by clicking the Apply button, or contact me directly for a confidential discussion.
