Job description
The Waste Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational management of waste services delivered by Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation trust (GHNHSFT) sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the management and continuous improvement of waste services across supported healthcare sites
- Acting as the organisations subject matter expert for waste management and environmental compliance
- Ensuring compliance with healthcare waste legislation, environmental regulations, health and safety requirements and organisational governance frameworks
- Developing and maintaining waste management policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Systems of Work
- Leading waste audits, inspections and compliance assurance activities
- Monitoring waste performance, contractor delivery, recycling rates and service costs through KPI reporting and analysis
- Managing waste-related incidents, investigations and corrective actions
- Driving waste reduction, recycling, reuse and sustainability initiatives that support environmental objectives and waste hierarchy
- Supporting contract management, procurement activities and service development projects
- Developing and delivering waste management and compliance training programmes
- Contributing to governance reporting assurance processes and continuous improvement activities
The postholder will work closely with operational, clinical and corporate stakeholders, contractors, regulators and partner organisations to ensure waste services are delivered safely, effectively and in accordance with statutory requirements.
