Key Duties
• Analyzes and validates data taken from interview of patient and/or family and utilizes this knowledge to formulate appropriate nursing interventions into patient treatment plans.
• Establishes nursing care objectives and priorities based on the assessments of patients needs in relation to long and short term treatment goals involves and directs nursing care personnel in the administration of individual clinical therapy into the total treatment milieu.
• Participates in formulating, interpreting, implementing and evaluating objectives, quality assurance policies, procedures and standards in nursing.
• Collaborates with the attending Physician and or Psychiatrist on the appropriate treatment for clients and ensure that prescribed medications are given as ordered.
• Collaborates with appropriate support personnel in the discharge planning of patients and in the appropriate referral to other mental health resources in the community.
• Participates in the designing and implementation of public awareness campaigns, promotions and the distribution of information as necessary in conjunction with other Stake holders, services and the media.
• Maintains current knowledge of nursing care practice and informs nursing staff of changes.
• Utilizes good therapeutic communication skills with patients in all situations and under all circumstances.
• Organizes and lead individual and group social and recreational activities to structure clients time, increase social experience, and provide opportunities to practice social skills and receive feedback and support.
• Adheres to the code of conduct and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in training in the effective use of the Electronic Health Record System.
• Assists in the orientation and training of new or less experienced staff as necessary.
• Assumes a leadership role in emergency situations and monitors the work of nursing staff and directs the care of patients.
• Restrains combative patients in accordance with the Restraints policy.
• Educates family to recognize signs/symptoms of decompensation and appropriate interventions in the event that this occurs in the psychiatric patients.
• Participates in surveys and research on mental health related areas to enhance and promote quality patient/client care as directed.
• Coordinate work activities and to facilitate the provision of continued patient/ client care.
• Ensures that patients/clients basic human rights are not violated.
• Investigates reports of complaints, incidents and accidents, report to Coordinator, Mental Health Services so that appropriate corrective actions are taken.
• Document client progress accurately to maintain a permanent record of client treatment and activity according to established methods and procedures.
• Adhere to the code of conduct and maintain confidentiality.
• Ensure that patients/clients basic human rights are not violated.
• Participate in the written Hospital Disaster Preparedness Plan.
