Job description

• Assess patients upon admission, formulate nursing diagnoses and develop personalized care plans, conducting continuous reassessment and adjustments based on the patients condition. • Utilize advanced monitoring equipment and interpret diagnostic tests to guide clinical decision making. • Administer patients medication and treatment as prescribed, monitoring patient responses and adjusting care as required, ensuring that care provided is documented and signed. • Advocate for patients, ensuring their required needs are met. • Ensure patient safety through routine equipment and alarms checks. • Provide a safe environment for patients and staff by observing infection control precautions, removing hazards, reporting faulty equipment and adhering to and enforcing rules regarding health and safety. • Participate in maintaining an accurate recording and reporting system and in informing members of the Health Team about the care of patients, their progress and work-related matters. • Attend training in the use of the Electronic Health Record System and utilize the system as instructed. • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding care plans, treatment options, and emotional support. • Participate and plan discharge of patient/client; prepare and forward discharge slip to relevant personnel for follow-up care and inform and teach his or her family accordingly. • Maintain an adequate stock of medication, equipment and supplies and ensure that they are stored safely and used appropriately. • Provide nursing support services in other Units as directed. • Participate in the development of short-term plans, programme and activities to achieve the objectives set for the ward. • Investigate and report on incidents/accidents and other untoward occurrences to the Nurse in Charge. • Provide support in the development and implementation of in-service programmes including on the job. • Training sessions for staff and patient-care conferences for effective communication of the required service delivery. • Supervise staff and ensure adherence to policies and procedures of the department. • Participate in the orientation and education of new staff. • Adhere to the Nursing Code of Ethics, perform professionally and always maintain confidentiality of office. • Adhere to patient safety protocols, risk management strategies, and infection control practices. • Supervise and administer the delivery of intravenous fluid, blood and blood products in accordance with Policy. • Complete and submit annual objectives as required, complete self-assessment and annual performance appraisal in conjunction with manager. • Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of the quality of patient care and pursue opportunities to improve patient care and resolve identified problems. • Pursue on going education and training to remain current in best practices and advancement in critical Care.
