Job description

Band 6 Clinical Educator Acute Medical Unit (AMU) 1. Clinical Education & Training • Deliver highquality clinical education, bedside teaching, and competencybased training for staff working on AMU across Bands 36. • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate AMU induction programmes, ensuring staff are equipped to work safely within acute, highturnover environments. • Support delivery of rolespecific education for Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC), High Care areas, and general AMU clinical practice. [Governance June 23 | Word] • Act as a visible and accessible educational resource on the unit, supporting learning in realtime clinical practice. 2. Preceptorship & Staff Development • Coordinate and support preceptorship programmes for newly qualified nurses, international nurses, and returntopractice staff. • Provide coaching, supervision, and professional support to developing Band 5 nurses, supporting progression and retention. • Contribute to individual learning plans and support staff to meet required competencies within agreed timeframes. 3. Competency Assessment & Assurance • Support the completion, assessment, and maintenance of clinical competency frameworks in line with Trust standards. • Work with Ward Managers and senior staff to monitor and assure training compliance, including mandatory, essential, and rolespecific training using the AMU Training Matrix. • Identify training risks and escalate concerns appropriately where patient safety or workforce capability may be compromised. 4. Patient Safety & GovernanceLed Education • Translate learning from incidents, After Action Reviews, audits, complaints, and governance meetings into targeted education and practice development on AMU. • Deliver education in response to identified themes such as falls prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, documentation standards, escalation of deterioration, and medicines safety. • Support staff understanding and implementation of Trust policies, clinical guidelines, and national bestpractice standards. 5. Quality Improvement & Service Development • Support and contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and staff capability on AMU. • Assist in audits, evaluations, and reviews to measure the impact of education on clinical practice and patient safety. • Participate in service development and improvement work relating to workforce education and training. 6. Leadership, Professional RoleModel & Support • Act as a professional role model, demonstrating high standards of clinical practice, leadership, and compassionate care. • Promote a just culture and learning culture, encouraging reflective practice and staff engagement. • Support Ward Managers and senior nurses by providing expert educational input and advice. 7. Communication, Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement • Work collaboratively with Practice Development Teams, Ward Managers, Matrons, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure education aligns with service priorities. • Contribute to Trust education networks, forums, and initiatives, sharing learning and best practice. • Maintain accurate records of education delivered, competency assessments, and evaluation outcomes. 8.
