Coatings Development Manager • Location: Merseyside • Job Type: Permanent, Full-time, site-based • Direct Reports: Yes We are seeking a Coatings Development Manager to lead and coordinate a Coatings Development team. This pivotal role involves delivering innovative products and serving as a technical representative in both internal and external forums. The successful candidate will contribute to product development discussions and strategic initiatives to meet customer, company, and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day of the role: • Lead the team, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. • Oversee the development of coatings products tailored to specific markets, ensuring alignment with customer and company requirements and market trends. • Represent the department in internal meetings and external engagements, including customer visits, technical forums, and industry events. • Manage multiple projects, ensuring resources and budgets align with safety, quality, and sustainability standards within agreed timelines. • Maintain an efficient and safe working environment in the development team laboratory. • Manage the development team budget and CAPEX investments. • Support the professional development of Chemists within the team through mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance. • Ensure all products meet performance specifications and comply with relevant regulatory and legislative standards. • Collaborate cross-functionally with Commercial, Procurement, Operations, Quality, and Health and Safety departments to ensure successful product development and commercialisation. • Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies, and competitor activity to inform strategic direction and innovation. • Promote and uphold HSE standards, ensuring compliance with the company's Health and Safety policy. Required Skills & Qualifications: • Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a related discipline • Strong stakeholder management skills, including local, global, internal, and external parties. • Proficient in project management, progressing new products through a stage-gated process. • Effective resource management skills, including planning, recruitment, and business mitigation. • Excellent communication skills across various formats and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly. • Strong knowledge of coatings chemistry, preferably with experience in industrial coatings development. • Familiarity with global regulatory and environmental compliance standards such as REACH. • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a science-based subject. • Extensive experience in research and development within the coatings industry. • Demonstrated ability to manage a team and multiple projects with successful outcomes.
