Job description

Endocrinology Service The Endocrinology service provides secondary and tertiary care to patients with a wide range of endocrine conditions from the West Midlands and beyond. The department combines provision of a clinical service with an active, world-leading research programme. The services we provide are nationally and internationally recognised include those for patients with pituitary disorders, thyroid, metabolic bone and calcium disorders, adrenal disorders (recently awarded Centre of Excellence status by the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumours, ENSAT), reproductive disorders and neuroendocrine tumours (also Centre of Excellence status); we also provide services for young people undergoing transition/transfer from paediatrics, survivors of cancer and pregnant women with endocrinopathies. The service centres around busy outpatient departments located at QEHB and is underpinned by an evidence-based approach to care. Future plans are to further develop integrated care pathways with primary care, one stop clinics, remote monitoring and increased use of PIFU. The department is jointly staffed by NHS and University. All services are supported by our nursing team who provide comprehensive care including running the endocrine day case unit, providing patient education and nurse-led clinics. The department works in close collaboration with biochemists, endocrine surgeons, geneticists, gynaecologists, neurosurgeons, obstetricians, oncologists, ophthalmologists, paediatricians and radiologists. Much of the care is provided in a multidisciplinary team setting, with patients attending joint clinics. It also has close links with Birmingham Children's Hospital, Birmingham Women 's Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
