Consultant Gastroenterologist

Depending on the needs of the department and the successful applicant's interests, the job plan may include elements of flexible working or annualised sessions. To contribute to the delivery, development and continuous improvement of specialist gastroenterology services, with a particular focus on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Clinical Nutrition, while supporting other areas of subspecialty practice as required. To deliver high-quality, patient-centred care through an average of 2 - 3 endoscopy sessions per week, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures appropriate to the post holder's expertise. To undertake an average of 2 - 3 outpatient clinics per week, including specialist IBD and/or Nutrition clinics where appropriate. To participate in the consultant rota for inpatient gastroenterology and hepatology services, providing high-quality care for patients with acute and complex gastrointestinal disease. To participate in the emergency Gastrointestinal Bleeding (GIB) On-Call rota. To work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including specialist nurses, dietitians, surgeons, radiologists, pharmacists and primary care colleagues, to deliver integrated patient care. To provide specialist advice and support to colleagues across primary and secondary care. To contribute to service development, clinical governance, quality improvement, audit and the implementation of evidence-based practice. To support undergraduate and postgraduate education and contribute to the training and supervision of junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team. To work in accordance with agreed clinical pathways, national guidance and Trust policies, maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and clinical governance.
