Job description

A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Costs Lawyer or Costs Draftsperson to join its team in Cardiff, South Glamorgan. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a broad range of costs matters with a high degree of autonomy. The firm also welcomes applications from Accountants or qualified Lawyers looking to move away from fee-earning work into a specialist costs role, particularly those with strong analytical skills and an interest in financial work. The Role • Preparing Bills of Costs • Drafting Costs Budgets (Precedent H), Budget Discussion Reports (Precedent R) and Precedent S documents • Drafting and responding to Points of Dispute and Points of Reply • Negotiating costs settlements with opponents and third parties • Advising fee earners on costs strategy and recovery • Attending Detailed Assessment Hearings and Costs Case Management Conferences where required • Preparing hearing bundles and supporting documentation • Assisting with the development of the firm's costs processes • Supporting and advising colleagues on costs-related matters Requirements • Experience in costs law, legal costs drafting or a similar analytical role • Applications welcomed from Costs Lawyers, Costs Draftspersons, Accountants and qualified Lawyers looking to transition into a non-billing role • Strong analytical and numerical skills • Excellent drafting and negotiation abilities • Good understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and costs recovery processes • Organised with excellent attention to detail • Strong communication and relationship-building skills • Experience with costs software or case management systems would be advantageous What's on Offer • Competitive salary • Hybrid working (1 day per week in the office) • Generous annual leave, with the option to buy or sell additional leave • Pension scheme • Life assurance • Gym membership contribution • Career development and ongoing training • Employee rewards scheme • Supportive and collaborative working environment Should you have any questions or wish to apply please do not hesitate to contact Clear Legal and Financial Recruitment.
