Costs LawyerAbout the OpportunityAn award-winning and growing legal practice is seeking an experienced Costs Lawyer to join its established in-house Costs and Billing Team.

The successful candidate will work closely with a variety of legal departments, providing specialist costs support across a broad range of litigation matters while managing their own caseload from inception through to conclusion.
The RoleYou will be responsible for delivering a high-quality costs service across multiple practice areas, working closely with fee earners and legal teams to maximise costs recovery and ensure compliance with relevant procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
• Managing your own legal costs caseload from instruction through to conclusion
• Preparing Bills of Costs, including electronic bills where required
• Drafting Costs Budgets, Replies, and Points of Dispute
• Conducting negotiations and advocacy relating to costs matters
• Advising colleagues on costs-related issues and strategy
• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal legal teams
• Ensuring compliance with departmental procedures and service standards
• Managing deadlines and prioritising workload effectively
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of costs law, procedure, and relevant developments
• Supporting the wider team through collaboration and knowledge sharing
The role offers exposure to a broad range of work across multiple disciplines, including high-value and complex litigation matters.
Candidate ProfileApplications are welcomed from experienced Costs Lawyers and legal costs professionals who can demonstrate:
• A minimum of 5 years' experience within a legal costs role
• Strong technical knowledge of costs law and procedure
• Experience preparing Bills of Costs, Costs Budgets, Replies, and Points of Dispute
• Advocacy and negotiation experience
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines effectively
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• A proactive, approachable, and commercially aware mindset
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
The following would be advantageous:
• Experience within claimant litigation environments
• Familiarity with legal costs software such as CostMaster and/or Proclaim
• Previous supervisory, mentoring, or team leadership experience
