Job description
About the RoleAre you an experienced educator, TA, or youth worker looking for flexible classroom work starting this September?
We are currently recruiting Ad Hoc Cover Supervisors to join our team for the new academic year, supporting secondary schools in Upminster and across the broader Havering area.
In this role, you'll step into the classroom on a day-to-day basis to manage behaviour, deliver pre-prepared lessons, and keep students engaged during regular teacher absences. It offers complete control over your working schedule for the upcoming school year-ideal for securing flexible work without the burden of lesson planning, marking, or parents' evenings.
Key Responsibilities
• Same-Day Cover: Maintain morning availability (from 7:00 AM) to accept local, short-notice cover bookings.
• Classroom Management: Supervise pre-set lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, keeping students on task, safe, and focused.
• Support & Feedback: Assist students with their set work, enforce school behaviour policies, and collect work to leave written updates for returning staff.
• Borough-Wide Flexibility: Work across various secondary schools in Upminster and wider Havering depending on daily demand.
What We Are Looking For
• Experience: Essential experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, tutoring, or sports coaching.
• Morning Availability: Ready and available for morning calls to travel to local schools promptly.
• Confidence & Adaptability: Strong classroom presence, clear communication skills, and the confidence to guide groups of up to 30 students across different subjects.
What We Offer
• Competitive Pay: £100 - £130 per day depending on experience, paid via PAYE (no umbrella company fees or hidden deductions).
• Flexibility: Work as much or as little as you want throughout the term-you manage your own availability.
• Local Opportunities: Work close to home with regular placements across Upminster and the wider Havering borough (excellent links via District Line, C2C, and local buses).
• Career Growth: Outstanding hands-on experience for anyone looking to build a teaching portfolio or pursue a future PGCE.
Safeguarding & ComplianceWe are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants must meet the following compliance requirements before starting work in September:
• Hold an Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
• Provide full, clear employment/education history and professional references covering at least the last two years.
• Undergo identity, right-to-work, and overseas police checks (where applicable).
