Job description

Suffolk / Ipswich Area | 6-Month FTC | Hybrid Working We're supporting a leading organisation operating within a complex, project-led environment to appoint a Data Protection Manager on a fixed-term basis. This is a hands-on role offering the opportunity to shape and embed data protection practices across a growing business. Working closely with stakeholders across operational, technical and corporate functions, you'll play a key role in ensuring compliance is effectively translated into day-to-day business processes. The position would suit a pragmatic data protection professional who enjoys building stakeholder relationships and delivering practical compliance solutions rather than purely policy-led advice. Key Responsibilities • Lead and oversee compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. • Conduct and support Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) across business systems, projects and new initiatives. • Develop, review and maintain data protection policies, procedures and governance frameworks. • Support the implementation of information governance controls across multiple business functions. • Establish and maintain appropriate data retention and records management practices. • Act as a key point of contact for data incidents, breaches and regulatory obligations. • Support Subject Access Requests (SARs) and wider data rights requests. • Deliver training and awareness programmes to improve data protection practices across the organisation. • Conduct compliance monitoring, audits and risk assessments. • Provide clear, commercially focused advice to operational, technical and senior stakeholders. • Work closely with IT, HR, Finance, Procurement and operational teams to embed best practice. About You We're keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate: • Previous experience within a Data Protection, Privacy or Information Governance role. • Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. • Experience undertaking DPIAs, risk assessments and compliance reviews. • Experience managing data incidents, breaches and regulatory reporting obligations. • The ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, business-focused solutions. • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills. • A proactive, hands-on and solutions-oriented approach. • Experience within project-led, operational, engineering, infrastructure or similarly complex environments would be advantageous. Working Arrangements The role will require regular on-site attendance in the Ipswich area during the initial onboarding period to develop key stakeholder relationships and gain a thorough understanding of the business. Following this, there is flexibility around hybrid working arrangements, subject to operational requirements. Why Apply? • Opportunity to make a visible impact within a complex and evolving organisation. • Broad role combining operational delivery, stakeholder engagement and compliance leadership. • Exposure to a wide range of business functions and senior stakeholders. • Varied and challenging workload within a collaborative environment. • The chance to influence and strengthen data protection practices across the business. Summary This role would suit an experienced Data Protection professional who enjoys working closely with stakeholders, driving compliance in a practical way and embedding good governance across a fast-paced environment.
