Job description

Distribution Operator Location: South West Essex Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 per annum Hours: 08:00 – 17:00 (with required cover for early/late shifts during holiday periods) An opportunity has arisen for a Distribution Operator to join a busy transport and logistics environment based in South West Essex. The role sits within a fast-paced distribution department, supporting the efficient, safe, and compliant movement of goods across the UK. The successful candidate will work as part of an operational team, ensuring clear communication between customers, drivers, and internal departments, while maintaining high levels of accuracy, organisation, and regulatory compliance. Main Purpose of the RoleTo support the safe and efficient delivery of UK domestic transport operations, ensuring customer requirements are met in line with company procedures, statutory regulations, and Health & Safety standards, while contributing to overall operational performance and service quality. Key Responsibilities • Prepare and issue accurate documentation for warehouse loading and unloading • Carry out general transport administration including invoicing, filing, queries, claims, and cost checking • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, suppliers, and internal teams • Assist with the planning and re-planning of distribution routes and vehicle schedules • Support effective utilisation of the vehicle fleet • Produce and maintain operational reports and KPI data as required • Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, including drivers’ hours and vehicle regulations Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with drivers and customers • Good geographical knowledge of the South East of England preferred • Understanding of transport compliance, including drivers’ hours and vehicle regulations • Strong IT skills with the ability to quickly learn transport management systems • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in administration and reporting • Ability to multitask and perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment • Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive approach • Ability to work effectively as part of a team • Previous experience in transport, logistics, or distribution is desirable Benefits • Competitive salary of £28,000 – £30,000 • Full-time permanent position within a busy and established operation • Opportunities for career development and progression • Supportive and professional working environment This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking to develop their career within transport operations in a dynamic and fast-moving industry.
