Electrical Engineer | Barnet Council
Barnet Council is recruiting an Electrical Engineer to join its Estates – Building Services team in Colindale.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer with building services experience to support a large public sector estate, delivering safe, compliant, low-carbon and cost-effective solutions across the borough.
The role
You’ll provide technical expertise across electrical systems, supporting the design, maintenance, compliance, and delivery of electrical works within the council’s managed estate. The role will involve working on feasibility studies, condition surveys, CAD drawings, specifications, reports, and contract administration, while also supporting contractor management and project delivery.
Key responsibilities
• Assist with the design, review, and delivery of electrical engineering solutions.
• Support compliance, statutory requirements, and best practice across electrical systems.
• Produce CAD drawings, reports, specifications, briefs, and feasibility studies.
• Lead or support contract administration and site inspections.
• Manage contractor performance, budgets, and value for money.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.
• Contribute to low-carbon and energy-efficient electrical solutions.
The ideal candidate
• We’re looking for someone with:
• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Training in Building Services Engineering, energy, or sustainability.
• At least 5 years’ UK electrical engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of electrical services from concept to completion.
• Experience with contractors, construction contracts, and budget management.
• Knowledge of public sector procurement and governance.
• Understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and compliance requirements.
• A working knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Works, CDM 2015, and the Building Safety Act 2022.
• Chartered Engineer status, or progress toward this, would be an advantage.
What’s on offer
Salary: £48,003 – £53,172
