Job description

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader – Environmental Protection to join our Environmental Protection service. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable and proactive professional who can hit the ground running, providing both technical expertise and effective leadership. The successful candidate will have previous experience leading an Environmental Protection team and will play a key role in managing officers, overseeing complex casework, and providing specialist advice on planning consultations. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage the Environmental Protection team, providing day-to-day supervision and support. • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance management, and staff development. • Respond to planning consultations, providing specialist environmental advice on noise, contaminated land, lighting, and air quality matters. • Manage and oversee complex Environmental Protection investigations and enforcement activities. • Serve statutory notices and prepare prosecution cases where appropriate. • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation and case law. • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, external agencies, businesses, and members of the public. • Deliver a high-quality, customer-focused Environmental Protection service. Essential Experience The successful candidate will demonstrate: • Previous experience as a Team Leader or Manager within an Environmental Protection service. • Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge across Environmental Protection disciplines and relevant case law. • Significant experience responding to planning consultations, particularly relating to noise, contaminated land, light pollution, and air quality. • Extensive experience undertaking a wide range of enforcement activities, including serving statutory notices and preparing prosecution cases. • Proven experience managing and developing teams, including carrying out regular one-to-one meetings and performance management. • Experience dealing professionally and effectively with members of the public. • Experience working collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Additional Requirements • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when required to meet service needs. • Access to a vehicle for business use, as public transport is not a practical option due to the size and nature of the district. • A full current driving licence. • Business use insurance for your vehicle.
