Job description

Our client Swindon Council is looking for an Experienced Social worker to join their Disability Children's team. Job PurposeThe Experienced Social Worker will provide high-quality social work services to children and young people with disabilities and their families. The post holder will undertake statutory assessments, safeguard children, coordinate multi-agency support, and ensure children with complex needs receive appropriate services to maximise their wellbeing, development, and independence. The role requires skilled assessment, effective partnership working, and a commitment to promoting the voice of the child. Key Responsibilities • Manage a complex caseload of children and young people with disabilities, including those who are Children in Need, subject to Child Protection Plans, Looked After Children, or involved in care proceedings. • Undertake comprehensive Child and Family Assessments in accordance with statutory guidance and organisational procedures. • Assess children's developmental needs, parenting capacity, family functioning, and environmental factors. • Complete specialist assessments relating to disability, including assessments for short breaks, specialist services, equipment, and support packages. • Develop, implement, monitor, and review Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked After Children, and Care Plans. • Undertake safeguarding enquiries, including Section 47 investigations where required. • Prepare high-quality reports for child protection conferences, reviews, legal planning meetings, and court proceedings. • Represent Children's Services in court and provide professional evidence when necessary. • Work in partnership with parents, carers, schools, health professionals, occupational therapists, psychologists, and voluntary sector organisations. • Promote direct work with children using communication methods appropriate to their age, disability, and level of understanding. • Advocate for children's rights, ensuring their wishes and feelings inform assessment and planning. • Maintain accurate, timely, and analytical case recordings using the local authority's electronic recording system. • Participate in duty arrangements and respond promptly to safeguarding concerns. • Support less experienced social workers, students, and newly qualified colleagues where appropriate.
