Job description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated Fish Shop Assistant to join our team. This role involves providing excellent customer service, preparing fresh fish and seafood products, and ensuring the shop maintains high standards of cleanliness and food safety. The successful candidate will play a vital part in delivering a positive shopping experience for our customers and supporting the daily operations of the shop. Previous experience in food production or a culinary environment is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. Duties • Assist customers with selecting fish and seafood products, offering knowledgeable advice when needed • Prepare fish and seafood items according to shop standards, including filleting and portioning • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the shop, including cleaning work surfaces and display areas • Ensure all food safety regulations are adhered to, including proper storage and handling of products • Restock shelves and display units to ensure availability of fresh stock throughout the day • Operate equipment such as knives, scales, and refrigeration units safely and efficiently • Support with general shop duties such as cash handling, packaging, and maintaining stock levels • Follow health and safety guidelines to create a safe environment for staff and customers Requirements • Experience in food production, culinary arts, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in handling seafood products • Previous experience working in a restaurant or kitchen environment is advantageous • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively • A positive attitude with excellent customer service skills • Willingness to learn new skills related to fish preparation and shop operations This position offers an opportunity to develop specialised skills within the seafood retail sector while contributing to a friendly team environment.
